How it works

An EV charger (Electric Vehicle charger) is a device that supplies electrical energy to recharge the battery of an electric vehicle. It works be converting electricity from a power source (such as the grid or solar panels) into a form that an EV battery can store.

1

Power source

The charger is connected to an electrical supply, which can be a standard home outlet (level 1), a higher powered dedicated circuit (level 2), or a commercial fast-charging station (level 3/DC fast charging).

2

Charging cable & plug

The charger transfers electricity through a cable and plug that connects to the EV’s charging port.

3

Charging process

The charger communicates with the EV’s battery management system (BMS) to regulate the flow of electricity

The BMS control how much power the battery receives, preventing overcharging and overheating.

4

Battery storage

The EV’s battery stores the electricity and converts it into useable power for driving.
